Cogfort E44D - Ironweld Steamtank
Description
A E44D cog tanks differ from other tanks in the Ironweld arsenal, favoring walking locomotion over wheels, allowing them to traverse through more environments across the mortal realms. The Quadrupedal arrangement of this cog tank is very suitable for the jungles of Ghyran that they find themselves in.
Build + Paint
So this one was sort of easy. I had already built and painted this Onager Dunecrawler and wanted to tweak it to fit this army. The effort I went to convert this for Age of Sigmar was quite minimal - so I’m not as proud as I am with the General on Griffon, but it’s still cool. This build uses the following kits:
Adeptus Mechanicus - Onager Dunestalker
Ogor Mawtribes Firebelly - That cone of flame he’s spitting
Cities of Sigmar Freeguild Guard - head and shields
Plasticard Tube - for the exhaust
Skaven Warp Lightning Canon - riveted enclosure around the exhaust
Gunner
The simplest tweaks were to give the gunner a helmeted head from the Freeguild Guard kit and adorn the sides with various shields and heraldry. I did try painting some heraldry but it didn’t feel right for this army. I definitely prefer the shield embellishments.
Smoke Stack
Next, I added a smoke stack out of plastic-card tubing and some riveted tube casings from the Skaven Warp Lightning Canon. For steam and flame coming out of the smoke stack I used the firebelly’s flaming cone as a sort of electrical smoke coming out of the stack. I probably could have found a ‘smoke’ bit from a third party site or something. I had used parts of the Firebelly in pieces for one of my Ogor Mawtribe Tyrant which you can follow in another post.
Canon
Tanks need a canon! There is a gun option that is a single long tube, probably the most similar in shape to a modern artillery cannon. But nothing that is big and thick like early cannons. However, one of the options had me more interested.
One of the guns looks like a big tesla coil. Given Sigmar’s proclivity for lightning, it seemed fitting that the engineers have found a way to create electricity to shoot out through the tesla coil-esque gun. It’s the sort of high tech that looks like old tech. Exactly the kind of visual language that helps me transition Warhammer 40k models into the Mortal Realms.
I also swapped out the gunners gun for the similar looking coil-y gun.
