Muhle Privateers - Ogor Mawtribes Firebelly - Admiral Crulg
Descriptions
Admiral Crulg is not your typical ogor. Growing up in his tribe he was taught the ways of the firebellies, worshiping Gorkamorka through fire and ash which suits him well aboard his low-efficiency high-burn aethership. He doesn’t wants to think about his next meal, he wants to ensure he’s got meals for years to come. As a privateer this means looking for long term contracts instead of short term project work. He’s more likely to take on a job as protection of a particular trade route over playing mercenary - though he can take that work too because ogors are opportunist and don’t like to let anything go to waste. He is a strong negotiator, using every bit of his intimidation and savvy to get the deal to work slightly more in his favor, but never to the detriment of the person on the other side of the table, because again, he’d rather be able to feed him and his crew for years over eating someone’s lunch one time.
Build
This build starts off with Nork Deddog from the Warhammer 40k Astra Militarum line. The base model comes with that sweet armor, a big gun and a big knife. I initially built him with the knife, but then later swapped it out for the Tzeentch Arcanite scroll to play into his proclivity for contractual agreements. While full of pictures to make it easier for him and other ogors to understand, they are strong, fair-ish, and carry the weight of his word.
Because my Beastclaw Raiders kits use Tyranid bits, I have quite a few of these vultures which are really cool bits. I thought they would be perfect stand ins for ‘pirate parrots’ to represent the opportunistic “waste nothign” nature of Ogors. The Tzeentch Arcanites also had a large flying vulture that looks really close to the same as these so it was great to be able to create a committee of vultures.
Here are the kits I borrowed parts from.
Imperial Guard Ogryn
Ogor Mawtribe Mournfang - Choppy Melee weapon & Pistol
Ogor Mawtribe Stonehorn - Standing vulture
Tzeentch Arcanites - flying vultures & scroll
Paint
For Crulg’s armor I made it sort of an ivory armor - which doesn’t sound strong - but it’s ivory from the bones of Skysails, huge speedy fish that swim the aether skies of ghur. One of my other armies, the Drukharidron hunt these animals and use the bones in armor, in their ship constructions, etc. It was a fun way to tie them together.
While his vulture(s) add a lot in their style and size already, I painted them as firey birds to emphasize his firebelly abilities. The proper name for this new species is Vulcature (Vulcatrix + Vulture) which I’m pretty stoked about.
The Muhle’s colors are burgundy (cuz it the tastiest color) and yellow (cuz its the zestiest color), and blue. Many of the crew wear yellow striped and checked pants, blue stripped or checked shirts, and reserve the burgundy for their metals.
I had orginally painted these guys with my CogFort army, thinking they were going to be a ‘maneater mercenary’ sort of thing. I want to be experimenting with all shades of skin tone with this army since there is so much skin on ogors.
