Bugclaw Raiders - Ogor Mawtribe Tyrant
Description
An Ogor Tyrant is one of the most brutal beings in the Mortal Realms. Able to go toe-to-toe with any challenger in their tribe, even those who bring big beasts to the party. This Ogor is taller than most, and wears the carcass of a Tyranid Hive Tyrant as armor and it’s head, impaled upon his stave as a crude halberd. Scurrying around his feet or perched upon his back is an armored globular, watching his masters back.

If you haven’t seen anything from my Ogornid Bugclaw Raiders project, then this will be an interesting first entry. Ogor were my first army in Warhammer Fantasy Battle, and this was my first fully converted army in Age of Sigmar.
In an Ogor Mawtribes army, the Ogor Tyrant is often the one calling the shots. In a Tyranid Army, the Hive Tyrant is often calling the shots. The fact that both general scrolls from both army were called ‘Tyrant’ was too poetic to pass up. And since the Ogor army is native to the Mortal Realms, they got to be the heroes in this one. But that “Tyrant” connection is what sparked the idea for this conversion.
As usually, we have to do some sort of photoshop mockup to see if the idea has legs. This is tricky because sizing is never perfect. The Tyranid Hive Tyrant is considerably bigger than any Ogor models with it’s long legs, scything arms, and tentacles - which means it was very feasible of the Ogor to fit inside its carcass.
This kitbash/conversion consists of the following:
Tyranid Hive Tyrant Torso and Head
Tyranid Tyrant Guard Shoulders
Tyranid Carnifex Arms (optional)
Ogor Thundertusk Rider head, arms, & pistol
Ogor Firebelly legs
Ogor Scraplauncher gnoblar
Milliput Sculpt & more
I had already 'bought in' to the idea of mixing an Ogor Tyrant with a Tyranid Hive Tyrant...the names even beg to be mashed up. The question: What this tyrant was. Was it an ogor that had beat up a Hive Tyrant and was wearing it as a trophy? Or was it a living bug that was using it's psychic abilities to make the tribe think it was an ogor? There's this power struggle between bug and ogor in this army that you'll become more aware of if you follow me down the rabbit hole.
In the end, I decided to make this an ogor tyrant wearing a hive tyrant's body as armor. It's definitely a more interesting conversion, and the stock tyranid kit would have been a bit out of proportion for the army...but maybe i can do that later too. With that out of the way, let's smash some plastic.
So currently I've assembled the Tyranid Hive Tyrant torso and source legs from an Ogor Firebelly. The yellow is milliput putty that i'm using to sculpt the main body. I've not done a ton of sculpting so i'm sure the anatomy is forked but I'm hoping to sculpt what i can create, well, and paint it in a believable manner.
My philosophy isn't typically about perfect builds, sculpts or paints, but executing it well enough sot hat the idea comes to life on the table. Let me know your thoughts!
His weapon is going to be sculpted next, but I'm not certain if he'll have a 'massive ogor club' or a great gut gouger. Or maybe both so I can decide which to use when I need it.
Picking out just the right head will be important too! I may have some other tyranid arm weapons hanging off the carapace too. Ooh and the hive tyrant head...where's that going?? More to come soon.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Are there any cool tyranid or ogor elements you think I should incorporate?
Story Phase
This particular Tryant became a wasn’t a Tyrant before the Falling Feast, the battle between Ogor and Tyranid at the edge of the Endless Desert. As the tribe neared the crashed meteor after beating hoof to be the first to arrive, Harv found himself face to face with a Hive tyrant.
You can start to read more about their lore on the blog here if you're interested in learning how these two powerhouses of destruction (Ogors from Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Tyranids from Warhammer 40,000) got into a scuffle in the Mortal Realms, and who came out on top In this Lore Post?
