What is Nemesis?
Nemesis an organized play format for Warhammer Underworlds. In Nemesis, players arrive with a deck they’ve constructed from two Rivals decks (64 cards). This is a lightweight exercise done before arriving and sitting down to a game, but creates ample room for expression and intrigue!
How do I build a legal Nemesis deck?
Check out the Official Nemsis Format Rules for additional criteria.
Organized Play Formats
Rivals | No deck building. Grab a Rivals deck and warband. Shuffle and play!
Nemesis | Build a deck from two Rivals decks to pair with your choice of warband.
Event Rulings
The following will be in effect for the event with a cutoff date enforced for new releases:
The latest Official Rules Update | Last updated Winter 2024-25
The latest Official Nemesis Format Rules | Last updated Winter 2024-25
New Release Cutoff Date
Any new releases or updates to the documents outlined above after February 20th, 2025 will not be used. This is done to avoid drastic changes in expectations for players. Judges may still consider newly released content in making their rulings for continuity and maintaining the spirit of the game.
For clarity, Borgit’s Beastgrabbaz and Edge of the Knife are both permitted for this event.
Pairings & Tiebreakers
Your opponent for your first game will be randomly determined. Subsequent rounds will be paired by Win Record, Game Losses, Glory Point Differential, Strength of Schedule, and then Random. The player at the end of three rounds with the highest win record will be our Tournament Champion. In the case of ties, the following tiebreakers will be used in order to determine final event placements: Win Record, Game Losses, Glory Point Differential, Strength of Schedule, and then Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Glory Differential will be capped! More details to come on that will be added to this page.
Additional Event Rulings
Updated: February 15th, 2025 | These rulings have been made in advance by an event judge.*
Ploy Timing
Q. When is a ploy considered to be played?
A. Once the card is revealed, before its text is resolved.
Relevancy: Canny Sapper (Pillage and Plunder) | Shut It, Pipsqueak! (Morgok’s Krushas)Unspecified Effect Durations
Q. If an ability does not have the persisting keyword nor specifies an end timing, how long does that ability remain active?
A. “These effects persist until the last Power step of the current battle round has ended.” [p22]
Relevancy: Trophy Huntaz (Borgit’s Beastgrabbaz) | Running Riot (Edge of the Knife) | Marked for Vengeance (Hexbane Hunters)Charging: Core Ability Composition
Q. Can I use abilities with the timing 'after a core ability' after the Move or Attack parts of a Charge?
A. No. A Charge is defined as a single core ability that contains a Move and an Attack. Move and Attack are indeed core abilities when used independently, but when used together Charge is the core ability. (If this were not the case, then you end up with three core abilities happening when a Charge occurs instead of one -> Move, Attack, Charge -vs- Charge)
Relevancy: Misfortune (Wrack and Ruin) | Ylthari’s Guardians (Inspire)Uninspiring an Uninspired Fighter
Q. If an ability asks you to Uninspire a fighter and does not specify that fighter must be Inspired, can you select an Uninspired fighter to be the target (even if there are Inspired fighters that could be chosen)?
A. Yes (p20, Expanded Rules)
Relevancy: Heaven's Charge (Brethren of the Bolt)Adjacency
Q. Can you explain what a fighter cannot be adjacent to for the purposes of Lost in the Depths and Calm Before the Storm?
A. “When an ability requires a player to determine adjacency between 2 or more things (such as fighters, tokens or hexes), adjacency cannot be determined from things not specified by that ability.” [p21] - This means Lost in the Depths does not care about adjacency outside of friendly fighters and Calm Before the Storm does not care about adjacency outside of damaged fighters.
Relevancy: Lost in the Depths (Pillage and Plunder) | Calm Before the Storm (Edge of the Knife)Adjacency & Any
Q. Can you score Calm Before the Storm if there is only one damaged fighter or Lost in the Depths if there is only one friendly fighter not slain?
A. Yes
Relevancy: Lost in the Depths (Pillage and Plunder) | Calm Before the Storm (Edge of the Knife)Bellowing Tyrant
Q: If a fighter with the upgrade Bellowing Tyrant does not have a Charge token, can they use the Core Ability on that card?
A: No
Relevancy: Bellowing Tyrant (Reckless Fury)Unstoppable
Q: If a vulnerable fighter equipped with Unstoppable is dealt precisely 1 damage by an ability (and therefore it is reduced to 0), is that fighter still considered to have been dealt damage?
A: Yes
Relevancy: Unstoppable (Wrack and Ruin) | Blooming Plague (Grandfather’s Gardeners) | Blood Tithe (Gorechosen of Dromm)
